Greater Muncy Area Resiliency Project
Floodplain Mitigation Public Meeting
Update #3 (Mar. 30, 2017)

Location: Muncy High School Auditorium
200 W Penn St, Muncy, PA 17756
Date/Time: Tuesday April 25th at 6:30pm
Target: Greater Muncy Area Floodplain including Muncy Creek Township homeowners interested in mitigation activities such as filling-in their basements, structural property elevations, and buyouts are encouraged to attend.
Sponsored by: County of Lycoming Department of Planning & Community Development

A floodplain mitigation meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 25th starting at 6:30pm at the Muncy Jr./Sr. High School Auditorium (200 W Penn St, Muncy, PA 17756). The project is available to Muncy Borough and Muncy Creek residents located in the floodplain. Lycoming County currently has grant funding to fill-in basements for homes within the floodplain in the Muncy area. The objective of this project is to reduce the risk of structural foundation damage from future flooding, provide long-term flood insurance premium reduction, help homeowners avoid or minimize the nuisance offload-related cleanup of their structure, and stabilize or improve the market value of the house. Homeowners interested in mitigation activities such as filling-in their basements, structural property elevations, and buyouts are encouraged to attend. Eligible projects for basement evacuations will be funded at no-cost. The County has secured a contractor to begin the project implementation this construction season.

Greater Muncy Area Resiliency Project
Important Call to Action
Update #1 (Jan. 16, 2017)

At the December 19, 2016, regularly scheduled meeting of the Muncy Borough Council Resolution 2016-14: A Resolution to Endorse the Greater Muncy Area Resiliency was passed. Click here for a copy of the resolution. Since then, meetings have been scheduled with Senator Gene Yaw, PA 23rd  District, and Representative Garth Everett, PA 84th District.

The purpose of the meetings is to review the “resiliency” concept as it relates to the Greater Muncy Area; and to demonstrate that this concept has the endorsement of local citizens, Muncy Borough Council and, the Lycoming County Planning Department.  We are now at the point where we need “champions” in the form of our state level elected officials to assist us in dealing with the numerous state agencies that may provide us with support in the form of consultation and grant funds.

Therefore, please consider this a “call to action” to everyone in the Greater Muncy Area to contact your elected officials using the information below.  Remember this project is multi-faceted.  It impacts all parts of the Muncy Community in the form of road/traffic improvements, pedestrian walk ways, storm water management, public sewer and water systems, business and economic development, historic preservation, and flood way management.  We can not do this project without your support! Please contact your representatives below and request their support.
